Historic Barn Rehabilitation Tax Credit
In 2022, New York State began the Historic Barn Rehabilitation Tax Credit, offering owners of historic barns a New York State income tax credit equal to 25% of qualified rehabilitation expenditures. Barns built before 1946 qualify. Barns do not need to be listed on the State or National Registers to qualify for the credit.

Tax Credits for Homes in Historic Districts
If you own an old house or storefront that is located within one of the historic districts, you may be eligible to obtain the New York State Homeowner or Commercial Rehabilitation Tax Credits. The Homeowner Tax Credits amount to 20% of the eligible rehabilitation costs, provided you follow guidelines in rehabilitation. Importantly, projects must be pre-approved in order to receive the tax credit.
